The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon
Page 117 contains a photograph of the multi-arched stone bridge spanning the Wissahickon. (See also catalog number 2013.34.114 and 2013.34.1.115a and b).
The photograph contains a handwritten notation underneath the photograph: "Entrance of Wissahickon in Winter. Looking Through Reading R.R. Bridge, across Schuylkill River." The photograph shows the multi-arched, stone Reading Railroad Bridge in the foreground. Immediately beyond the Reading Railroad Bridge is a smaller, "lower" bridge which spans the Wissahickon over Ridge Avenue. The Schuylkill River flows out of sight beyond Ridge Avenue and the view across the Schuylkill River depicts what is know (2014) Montgomery County. A snow covering in the foreground identifies the season as Winter. It must be noted that the multi-arched stone bridge in the foreground spans the Wissahickon creek, not the Schuylkill River. The caption may be misleading, but refers to the fact that looking through the arch is a view across the Schuylkill River.Collection
