The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon
Page 125 contains a photograph which may have been hand-colored. The scene depicts a rough stone wall across the Wissahickon producing a dam and a waterfall cascading over a portion of the stone wall. A large tree branch protrudes against a portion of the dam wall. In the background is a view of a bank of the Wissahickon, with some of the foliage displaying color as if sunlight was illuminating particular points in the foliage. Again, this coloration may be hand produced since it does not appear to be a natural phenomenon. A pencil notation of 1905 is found on the bottom right hand corner of the photograph. This may/may not indicate the year of the photograph. Most likely, it represents the year Jellett placed the photograph in this scrapbook.
It is also likely that this photograph does not represent the Falls of Wissahickon, unless it is a very early photograph of that site. The stone wall of the Falls of Wissahickon appears less "rough hewn" than the wall in this photograph. This photograph may represent another dam further north of the Falls of Wissahickon. No documentation exists in the scrapbook to accuratly define the actual location of this photograph.Collection
