In the left hand margin of the note paper is a handwritten word "wissahickon". These pages contain an article titled "Wissahickon" which begins in the middle of page 20 and continues on pages 21 and 22. At the bottom of page 21 is written "Paul [last name indecipherable) and the date 1878[?]. There is another short article entitled Pompeian Museum which will not be summarized.
The article is summarized as follows: The acquisition and development of Fairmount Park has been a boon to Philadelphia and the talk of it being "a rich man's park" have been disproved for many years by the general public use of the park. and it's features. The author cites an article on the park in Appleton's Art Journal which includes engravings and speaks eloquently on the Wissahickon. It describes the creek and the flora and fauna of its banks, the natural beauty of the woodlands and the use of the park by all ages of the population. It notes 'Devil's Pool', 'Greenwood Dam', the 'Monastery' as uniques features of the creek and the park (among others). It points out 'Indian Rock' on the other side of the creek and its association with the Lenni-Lenape tribe of Indians who lived in the area. It ends with a paen to the joys and natural beauty of the area.Collection
