Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon Page 161 contains a newspaper clipping entitled: "Maple Springs Hotel on Wissahickon." The article mentions that the Maple Springs Hotel was the last such establisment to be opened along the Wissahickon, situated mid-way between Wissahickon Hall and the Log Cabin. It also mentions Joseph Smith, a proprietor, noted for his rustic decorations. Following Smith, Harry Long took charge, but lost his privilege of selling liquor. The Hotel existed selling soft drinks but was raided by the police as a "speakeasy" and the hotel closed and was torn down. Below the article is a photograph showing the Maple Springs Hotel in the 70's.
