The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon
Page 163 contains a photograph with a pen notation at the bottom of "Newell". There are no other notations either on the reverse of the photograph or on the scrapbook page to determine what building has been photographed. The photograph shows a three story building partially obscured by trees. The first two stories appear to have balconies supported by filigreed columns. In front of the building is a low stone wall with steps flanked by two lanterns/lights atop wooden columns. A man and two dogs are seen standing atop the stone wall on the right. To the left of the building is a small open-front stable (with a wagon parked inside one of the stalls). The structure to the right is only partially visible and has an overhang supported by wooden columns and wooden stairs (on the left) leading to the roof level. It would appear to be a "road house" and/ or hotel along the Wissahickon, although which hotel/road house cannot be determined.Collection
