The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon
Page 179 contains two entries of notes by Jellett:
(a, top) This note is entitled: "M. Rittenhouse Grist Mill". The note indicates that Martin Rittenhouse was a miller and erected a mill on the Wissahickon near the Maple Springs Hotel. At the end of the note, in pencil, is the name "Casill."
(b, bottom) This note indicates that the Lower Rittenhouse Mill stood on the south bank of the Wissahickon, a little north of Gypsy Lane. Jellet indicates that when the lower dam was drained (in 1906), he located the dam-breast immediately opposite the site of the "second hotel", the stone work being clearly discernable. He notes the exact location by means of a detailed drawing. He concludes that the dam-breast rises about two feet above the mud bottom, and when the dam was drained, the water flowed over it with a slight fall.
A pencil notation at the bottom of this note (b) indicates the year 1907.Collection
