Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1, Part 2- The Wissahickon Page 191 contains an illustrated drawing labeled in pencil as "Approach to Wissahickon, November 1833." A typed label attributes the drawing to Charles J. Wister. The pencil drawing shows a two story building on the left surrounded on one side by hills and on the other two sides by trees. The one visible side of the building is actually a side wall - the entrance is not visible in the drawing. The building is likely constructed of either stone or wood. To the right of the building a number of human figures have been drawn. A path runs through the foreground and curves to the right and out of view. To the right of the path is visible a portion of another one story structure. The buildings as drawn as plain and functional and would indicate "early" construction. The drawing (from the title) would indicate the scene is located along or near to the Wissahickon.
