The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 3 -The Wissahickon
Page 41 contains a photograph with a typed label that reads: "Birthplace of David Rittenhouse, 1906." This photograph shows a frontal view of the building that was the birthplace of David Rittenhouse. (For a view of the rear of this building, please see catalog number 2013.34.3.40, scaprbook page 40). This photograph shows a two and one half story stone structure with an uneven roof line, suggesting that each "wing" of this structure was built at a different time. A stone chimney protrudes above the roof line. A series of windows can be viewed at ground level. Prominently, the double door with glass transom is situated high above ground level with no steps attached. To the right is an enclosure. The enclosure has a roof with lattice-work panels on either side. It is difficult to discern the purpose of this enclosure. A white picket fence surrounds the area in front of the structure. A dirt path runs beside the structure.Collection
