(a, top) this is a reproduction of a drawing of the David Rittenhouse birthplace, Please see scrapbook page 41 (2013.34.3.41) for a detailed description of the structure.
(b, mid-page) This small newspaper clipping indicates that the David Rittenhouse birthplace is the only dwelling house that remains of the village of Rittenhouse town on the east side of the creek. David Rittenhouse was born here on April 8, 1732.
(c, bottom) This newspaper clipping is a recollection of wandering through the Wissahickon Valley and coming upon the David Rittenhouse birthplace. The author reflects that both Logan and Rittenhouse are accorded less status than deserved by scholars. Citing Wm. Barton, the author mentions that Rittenhouse (at an early age) moved to Fairview (near Norristown) and became a clockmaker and mathematician. He also built an astronomical observatory and became famous in science and politics. His final resting place is in North Laurel Hill Cemetery.Collection
