Page 64 contains notes from Jellett and two newspaper clippings:
(a, top) Jellett's notes are transcribed as follows: "John Sharpless, the toll-gate keeper, lived in a stone house on the south side of Paper Mill Run, a few feet up the stream. Since the widening of the road at this point the site of the house has been brought to the open and is directly behind Neilsmith's guard house. John Sharpless was the father of Neilsmith's wife and she was born on this spot. (Neilsmith to E.J.C.) (see Fell, 3-5-1905).
(b, middle) This newspaper clipping mentions the toll gate at Rittenhouse Street and Wissahickon Drive and the toll keeper, John Sharpless, who took toll for thirteen years. A shoemaker by trade, Sharpless worked for many years in the Samuel Keyser shoeshop on Main Street , above the Mennonite Church.
(c, bottom) This newspaper clipping also mentions the toll gate at Rittenhouse Street and John Sharpless and the changes that have occurred in the Wissahickon Valley over the years.Collection
