Page 134 contains a newspaper clipping entitled: "WPB Drafts Walnut Lane Bridge For Wartime Duty". Hand-written on the clipping is the date of Sept. 1942. The article mentions that the Walnut Lane Bridge which was closed to traffic since 1932 will be demolished and that the 120,000 pounds of wrought iron may be salvaged and used in war production. The article further describes the initial construction (built in 1876) and use of the bridge until 1932 when it was closed to traffic due to an unsafe condition. While in use, it was the main conduit for traffic between Roxborough and Germantown.Collection
