Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 3 -The Wissahickon Page 151contains the following: (a, top) The illustration is labeled (by Jellett) as "Stand Pipe Tulpehocken St." The illustration shows a very tall cylindrical pipe to which are attached guide wires. The pipe is balanced on a fulcrum as it is being raised to full height. Groups of workers and observers can be seen on the ground around the work site. (b, bottom) This photograph is labeled "Germantown Water Works, 1882". The photograph shows a three story building with a very tall chimney situated on the banks of Paper Mill Run. The building is somewhat "nondescript" and could possibly be mistaken for a barn if not for the inscription. The surrounding hills and the large expanse in front of the building (Paper Mill Run) are covered with snow and Paper Mill Run is not distinguishable as a body of water due to the snow covering. On the hill above the Water Works building is the outline of another building (partially obscured). The surrounding area is lined with tall trees.
