The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 5 -The Wissahickon
Page 5 contains a photograph with a typed label that reads: "The Monastery by Henry Troth, 1905". The photograph shows a large four story square building constructed of stone. Two stone chimneys protrude from opposite ends of the roof line. A stone two story building extends from the side of the main building and a one story stone "extension" is seen to the left of the two story building. The roof of this "extension" is in disrepair. A wooden addition is seen projecting outward at the first story level. Upon close examination, it can be determined that window openings have been covered over with stone. The first floor corner (to the right) is in disrepair - many of the stones have disappeared and that corner is crumbling. The main roof and the remainder of the main building appear in good repair at first sight. However, given the telling signs of disrepair, it is likely that the building (at the time of the photograph) is not occupied.Collection
