Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 5 -The Wissahickon Page 13 contains two photographs: (a, top) This photograph is labeled "The Old Monastery of the Wissahickon". It is a newspaper photograph showing a front and side view of the structure known as The Mionastery. It depicts a four story stone structure (to include the attic space) with a porch supported by columns. The view appears to be facing the front of the structure. The photograph is somewhat "grainy" and in the foreground is what appears to be a fence (although whether the fence is of wood or plantings cannot be determined). (b, bottom) This photograph is labeled "The Ancient Spring House". This is also a newspaper photograph and it also has a "graniy" appearance. The photograph depicts the remains of a stone structure built somewhat below ground level and surrounded on three sides and the top by earth. The door appears to be missing as does the window leaving openings only for both. Vegetation is encroaching over the stones. The structure is obviously vacant and no longer in use.
