The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 5 -The Wissahickon
Page 25 contains a newspaper clipping which is labeled "The Old Monastery". Jellett's handwriting identifies this clipping as from the Germantown Independent Gazette of May, 1900. The article describes the efforts of local citizens to establish a golf course on the grounds of the Monastery property and their efforts to secure permission from the Park Commission to use the building as a club house. The unknown author lapses into a detailed account of the history of the building, but focuses on the actual use of the building as a residence. The article concludes with a brief description of the area outside the structure and the history associated with the area.Collection
