The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1- The Wissahickon
Page 47 contains handwritten notes of Jellett on white lined note paper. These notes are entitled "Wissahickon Notes", with a subtitle of "Memoir of John Fanning Watson" by Benjamin Don, D.D. Underneath this heading are birth and death dates as well as a publishing date of 1861. There follows an excerpt from page 23, written by Mrs. Whitman (Mr. Watson's daughter). Mrs. Whitman relates that her father was an avid walker, especially in the Wissahickon Valley and trained his children to utilize their feet and limbs. In addition to walking the Wissahickon, he loved to sketch and fish there. He also discussed the history of the area with his children and attempted to "paint a picture with words" in their minds about past history.Collection
