The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 7 -The Wissahickon
Page 51 contains a photograph with a printed caption which reads: "The Old Valley Green Rest House on the Wissahickon Drive. - This Drive is nearly eight miles in length, crossing the stream by many bridges; favorite road for selighing parties." The photograph shows a "distance" view of the Valley Green Inn with Wissahickon Drive in the foreground. The Inn is nestled along the Drive surrounded by a canopy of trees. The Wissahickon creek is on the side of the Drive opposite the Inn, but is not visible in the photograph.
It should be noted that the unpaved road in front of the Valley Green Inn is known today (2014) as Forbidden Drive, so named because vehicular traffic is forbidden from using the road. The name "Forbidden Drive" came into usage sometime in the 1920's. Previous to that time, the road was known as Wissahickon Drive.Collection
