Page 70 contains:
(a, overlay) This printed page is identified as Bulletin II of The Friends of the Wissahickon, dated December 11, 1928. The Bulletin is addressed To the Friends of the Wissahickon. The bulletin is a plea for additional funds ($3000) that the group hopes to raise to continue a reforestation project it began (with a total of $3500). This project was initiated by comments made in newspaper articles by Harvey Watts decrying the deplorable condition of the Wissahickon Valley. A local committee was formed and after a report was made, offered to augment the work done by the Park Commission which was hampered by a lack of funds in moving forward.
(b, three newspaper column clippings affixed to the actual scrapbook page, under the overlay) These three columns of newspaper clippings are entitled "Men and Things" and are authored by Harvey M. Watts. A pencil insciption at the bottom of the scrapbook page notes the date as 1934. The author notes a dinner at the Valley Green Inn to mark the transfer of the Inn for care and upkeep from a group of society women to The Friends of the Wissahickon. Another section of the article reports that The Friends of the Wissahickon have, over a ten year period, raised over $60,000 and replaced numerous trees, shrubs and foliage in the Wissahickon Valley. Finally, the article mentions the contribution that The Friends of the Wissahickon has made to the Harpers Meadow Project - the development of a picnic ground and recreation spot with a memorial shelter.Collection
