Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1- The Wissahickon Page 57 contains handwritten notes of Jellett on white lined note paper. These notes are entitled "Bob Fell" and appear to be a continuation of Notes started on page 53 (see catalog number 2013.34.1.53). It should also be noted that this page is double sided and needs to be turned over to reveal the reverse side. This page of notes is dated March 12, 1905. Although Jellett has entitled the page "Bob Fell", he mentions that he met this day with Shingle, Fell and Goell (Park Guards) to obtain further information regarding the Wissahickon and to collect nature data. Jellett indicates he started at Township Line (in 2013 known as Wissahickon Avenue) and Rittenhouse Street and followed the creek to Ridge Avenue. He met Fell and Shingle along the way. They showed him a spot where a man had been murdered and another spot where a suicide occurred. Their conversation covered more information on mills in the area and a description of roads and prominent features the guards remembered from the past. Wissahickon Hall (once a noted Inn and now [in 1905] the headquarters for the Wissahickon Guards) is mentioned, as well as Maple Springs Hotel and the Log Cabin Hotel.
