Valley Green
The Rockery at Valley Green, between the Drive and the creek, was built about the year 1878 by George Baumann of Roxborough. He was a frequenter of this part of the Wissahickon and asked permission to erect this rockery at his own expense. George Baumann delighted in the Wissahickon and built this rockery with his own hands.

Fly Fishing
Gold told me that when the Wissahickon was stocked with trout, he, by appointment, met with Mr. G. Nathan (?), Dr. Abbott, and Near Valley Green Hotel. The latter, he said, was the "champion fly fisher of Pennsylvania", and was able to place a fly just where he wished. After "proving himself" he handed his line to Gold and asked him to try. Gold told him he knew nothing about casting lines, - but was at length persuaded to try, - and with the result that the line was looped over trees, stones and grass, - and to Gold, proved a trying and humiliating experience. His friend showed his good breeding, however, and the most he said while trying to unsnarl the most difficult knots, was, "Isn't it provoking". After whipping the stream all the afternoon, one sun fish was caught, and this was thrown back into the stream. (G.)
