(a, top) Two newspaper clippings (joined together) constitute this entry. This short article relates the death on August 20, 1884 of Reuben Sands, a famous hotel keeper and politician in the Wissahickon Valley. He is probably most famous for owning and operating the Indian Rock Hotel on the Wissahickon as a popular resort.
(b, middle) A newspaper photograph of the Indian Rock Hotel is captioned "Indian Rock Hotel About 1872. Jellett attributes this photograph as appearing on 9-8-1907(?).
(c, bottom) This small newspaper clipping has a heading (by Jellett) of "Indian Rock Hotel". The article mentions Reuben Sands' Indian Rock Hotel as a famous stopping place in both Summer and Winter. It was located near the Rex Avenue bridge along the Wissahickon with Indian Rock standing opposite the Hotel. Charles Henry placed a permanent stone statue of Tedyuscung on Indian/Council Rock.Collection
