Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 7 -The Wissahickon Page 164 contains the following: (a, top) This photograph, in color, shows the Wissahickon creek in the foreground coursing through the rock strewn creek bed as it flows/menders into the distance. In the background can be seen a stone bridge with a single arch. A grove of trees obscures the right side of the bridge. A tree canopy predominates in the background. This photograph is both undated and uncaptioned. (b, bottom) This photograph postcard has a caption which reads: "Philadelphia Old Stone Bridge, Wissahickon". This photograph shows the crumbling ruins of an old stone bridge with the Wissahickon creek flowing underneath. The remnants of a stone arch are still visible; however, the wall above the arch is half-destroyed. It appears that most of the bridge has decayed and crumbled away. Through magnification, a man can be seen beyond the bridge standing in the creek fishing.
