The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 9 -The Wissahickon
Page 28 contains a newspaper clipping which Jellett has dated as 1925. The article is entitled "Erdenheim Mansion Has Been Removed". The article recounts that the old Erdenheim Mansion located on the west side of Stenton Avenue beyond the city line at Chestnut Hill has been removed. The Erdenheim farm property, owned by George D. Widener, is in a continuous state of improvement and the decision was made to remove the building, even after some reconstruction work was done on the building. The history of the property dates to the American Revolution; however, the property gained renown as a horse stock farm. The article also mentions that since Widener purchased the property, three historical sites on the property have been demolished (the Erdenheim Mansion, the Williams schoolhouse and an old burial ground containing historical gravestones which were not recovered).Collection
