The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 9 -The Wissahickon
Page 50 contains a newspaper clipping of an article entitled "Work Started by Disstons on the Comly Farm". The article is undated and there is no mention of where the article may have appeared, although the article indicates "the Gazette", so the Ambler Gazette would provide an educated guess as to the place of publication. The article mentions plans for a large building on the site of the old Comly Farm along the banks of the Wissahickon in Whitemarsh Township. The Disston interests (associated with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company) are involved in negotiations of sale of the property and the first building planned is a huge mill where saw handles will be manufactured, also necessitating a separate power plant on site. This construction is expected to result in the creation of a vast workforce. A rail cut-off is also being considered to expedite the transfer of building materials to the site. The large work force will require housing and a block of housing for 200 workers is planned for the site. The sale of the Joseph Nash farm at Church and Valley Green Roads was also reported , with the purchaser being R. K. Cassatt, son of the former president of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, who plans improvements to the property to include the construction of a modern race track.Collection
