Page 52 contains a clipping of a newspaper article entitled "The Man on the Corner". The article is sub headed "A Germantown Man Will Restore Hope Lodge". A pencil notation in the heading indicates the article appeared in Sept. 1922. The article relates that Hope Lodge in Whitemarsh (located at 553 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ft. Washington, PA 19034) is to be restored to its original appearance by a Germantown man (William L. Degn) who purchased the property. The remainder of the article recounts the many myths and misconceptions regarding the house and property. It is said that Washington used the house as his Headquarters, but this is false. The house and property had many owners, although the name Hope (for Henry Hope) has been retained to designate the house and property over the many years.Collection
