The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 9 -The Wissahickon
Page 53 contains a photograph and notes by Jellett affixed to white note paper which was then glued to the scrapbook page. The heading to Jellett's notes is: "Valley Green, Whitemarsh, PA by E.C.J. 11-2-1902". The note indicates that the photograph is that of the Longstreth House and was long occupied by that family. Jellett indicates that he took several walks to this place with Helen(?), and she told Jellett that Joe was born here. Jellett also relates that Helen told him that she and a little girl were playing at the back of the house and the little girl drowned in the Wissahickon creek. Jellett also reports that Benjamin Franklin once visited this place.
The photograph shows a grand three story residence surrounded by a first story porch in the front and on at least one side - the porch being supported by numerous columns with elaborate fretwork between the columns. A wide and expansive lawn is evident in the foreground. Many trees are visible throughout the property.Collection
