Description

The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 9 -The Wissahickon Page 57 contains a clipping of a newspaper article. There are several clippings on this scrapbook page, all of which are treated as part of the same article. Two illustrations accompany the article: one illustration is an old drawing from 1817 of St. Thomas Church showing a tall spire atop the steeple; the other shows the tomb of Edward Farmar. The heading of the article seems to be: "The Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, Founded A.D. 1770 And Rebuilt A.D. 1817." The Church stands on Bethlehem Pike in Whitemarsh Township (610 Church Rd., Ft. Washington, PA 19034). The church was founded by the Farmar family, who were also the principal patrons. The article recounts the history of the church, the individuals/families associated with the church, the listing of the clergy and the architecture of the church and attendant buildings.
