The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 9 -The Wissahickon
Page 122 contains two columns of newspaper clippings of an article entitled "Local History Sketch". Jellett has penciled in a date of 9-8-1910. The article is one of a series of articles seen in the scrapbook by an author known as "E. M." The article details the country site of Edwin S. Vare southwest of Ambler, along Morris Road. Vare was a state senator from Philadelphia. The site comprises 67 acres of meadow, woodland and rolling upland. The Wissahickon runs through at least a portion of the site. The author details a description of the mansion on the property. The current property is composed of two or more old time estates belonging to the Reiff and Detwiler families. A detailed description of the history of the property and the individuals involved is presented.Collection
