Page 123 contains the following:
(a, two left columns) These two columns are clippings from a local newspaper article entitled "Senator Vare's Country Home." The article recounts the purchase by Senator Vare of the country estate of the late Charles Bergner on Morris Road near Ambler. A description of both the property (67 acres) and the mansion house are contained in the article.
(b, far right column) This newspaper clipping recounts the railway accident at Camp Hill on July 7, 1856. At that time, the railway consisted of one line, making it necessary for trains to occasionally park on a switch to allow other trains to pass. On this day, a group (several hundred) of Catholics left Philadelphia to proceed to a picnic ground in Montgomery county. Just as they rounded the bend at Camp Hill, the southbound train crashed into them, killing and injuring a great many - some of whom were children. A rescue effort was organized locally and a Mrs. Andrew Ambler was particularly cited for her efforts in organizing the helpers into a relief corp. Her self sacrifices and valiant work caused the railroad company to name the station in her memory.Collection
