The Edwin C. Jellett Series of Scrapbooks, Volume 1- The Wissahickon
Page 89 contains a photograph of a mill on the Wissahickon. The photograph appears pasted on heavy card stock which is then affixed to the scrapbook page. A white label on the scrapbook page has the following typed caption: "Gift of Mrs. F. Cresson Schell, 5215 McKean Avenue, Germantown. Written in pencil on the actual photograph is the following caption: " Mill on Wissahickon. First photo I ever saw. 1856". The mill is not specifically identified.
The photograph shows the Wissahickon in the foreground with trees lining both banks. Centered in the background are three buildings. The leftmost building could be the mill owner's residence, and is a three story building. Behind this building and to the immediate right is another three story building likely constructed of stone and appears to be built into the hillside (at least the non-visible end of the building). To the right in the photograph is a large three story building almost appearing to be a barn-like structure with a tall chimney attached. Reflected in the creek is the opposite outline of each building.Collection
