Towel, Bath

Name/Title

Towel, Bath

Entry/Object ID

83.283

Description

Home spun linen, coarsely woven; size of piece suggests that it may have been a towel. Edges are selvaged and finished. Ends of material are turned under and hemmed. Piece has some brown stains (possibly blood stains) at one end. One edge has some broken threads and a small hole. Note: Card found with piece reads: "2026 Bedspread piece, presented by Mr. and Mrs. WC McCook". But a note with object T83-149 described a part of a wedding trousseau of 'Aunt Maria Oldham 1827'; in this trousseau were a homespun sheet, pillowcase and towel. These pieces were also given by Ida M. SMcCook in 1923. This is most likely the towel mentioned in T83-149 label.
