Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 121 Photograph a [top]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows a view of the Endt House (5222-5224 Germantown Avenue); the Bechtel House (5226 Germantown Avenue) and the Van Laschet House (5230-5232 Germantown Avenue). The photograph shows a view of a row of structures in the 5200 block of Germantown Avenue. The houses are similar in construction as being stone, of two stories and with dormer windows built into the roof line. Germantown Avenue is seen in the foreground as unpaved. The Van Laschet House appears to be a store. The last building in this "row" is described as the Indian Queen Inn (located at 5242-5244 Germantown Avenue). A wagon with a team of horses is seen in front of the Inn. Photograph b [bottom]: This photograph shows a view of the Endt House (5222-5224 Germantown Avenue) and the Bechtel House (5226 Germantown Avenue) at an obviously later date than photograph 121a. The houses appear little changed from photograph 121a. A principal difference is Germantown Avenue in the foreground which appears paved. A portion of the Endt House has been converted into a retail establishment (Edward L. Gregory Harness is prined on the awning hanging over the entrance as well as lettered on the store window). A portion of the Van Laschet House can be seen on the right side of the photograph.
