Photograph a [top]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows four houses on what may (or may not) be Cottage Row in the 5300 block of Germantown Avenue). Germantown Avenue is seen as a paved road in the foreground. A paved sidewalk extends the width of the photograph. A stone wall extends across the front of each property with steps leading up to the front entrance of each property. To the left is a partial view of a two story house with paneled shutters framing first floor windows and closed louvered shutters framing second story windows. The center building consists of twin houses with a joint overhang over the front entrances creating a small proch for each house adorned with trellis work. The left-most of these twins has a side proch which is partially enclosed with windows - the remainder being open. To the right is visible a portion of a two story house with a dormer (containing a double window) built into the roof line. This house is partially covered with vines on the front facade and on the side. A wooden utility pole is visible on the sidewalk to the right in the photograph.
Photograph b [bottom]: This photograph shows a front and partial side view of the Farm House of Christopher Bockius located at 5400 Germantown Avenue (at the northwest corner of Germantown Avenue and Coulter Street). The photograph shows Germantown Avenue in the foreground as partially paved and partially dirt road. Coulter Street (on the left) is a dirt road. The house is a two story stone structure with a pent eave running the width of the first floor front. On the left, a wooden fence extends from the rear of the structure along Coulter Street. To the right of the house (along Germantown Avenue) is a stone wall. There is a one story extension (likely constructed of wood) behind the main structure. Two stone steps lead up to the front door, and a grouping of stones in front of the house extending to the left to Coulter Street are visible forming a sort of curbing and sidewalk.
