Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 109
Photograph a [top]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows a view of the Robert Thomas House located at 6109 Germantown Avenue (History of Old Germantown by Keyser, Kain, Garber & McCann, 1907, p. 357) This structure is stucco covered and a full three stories with a three story extension in the rear. The front roof is pitched both front and rear, while the roof on the extension is flat. A side yard is visible through an open metal fence with a side first floor entrance also visible. All windows have shutters. The house to the right is a two story structure with a single dormer window built into the roof line and set back from the Thomas House. To the right in this photograph is barely visible the top of another structure in the distance.
Photograph b [center]: This photograph shows a view of the Rose Cottage located in the 6200 block of Germantown Avenue (at the south corner of Germantown Avenue and Tulpehocken Street). Germanotwn Avenue and a portion of Tulpehocken Street are seen in the foreground. Rose Cottage is in the background and appears as a three story structure extending back into the property with a large "extension" to the rear of the front structure. The property appears enclosed by a large decorative stone wall with tall "columns" placed at strategic intervals and built as part of the wall to enhance the appearance of height. The wall itself is capped with (perhaps) terra cotta shingles. Some structures are visible to the left of the Rose Cottage. In the left foreground is what appears to be the canopy of a possible movie theatre. A man is seen standing on the corner and an automobile is seen not too distant from this man. Two woman may be seen at the corner in front of the stone wall surrounding the Rose Cottage.
Photograph c [bottom]: This photograph shows a view of a stone structure in the 6300 block of Germantown Avenue (on the west side of Germantown Avenue, below Duval Street. The house was demolished when West Pomona Street was opened). The stone structure is two stories with two dormer windows built into the roof line. In the photograph, the first floor appears to be divided into two commercial spaces. People and wares (of some sort) are visible in front of the shops. Germantown Avenue is seen in the foreground as embedded with trolley tracks in the street paving. Attached to this stone structure in the rear is an "extension" with a deteroriating roof and some destruction of side stone walls. To the right (further down Germantown Avenue) is a three story home separated from the central stone structure by an open lot and partially obscured by mature trees.
