Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 103 Photograph: Please see notes for captioning information. This photograph shows a view of the Coynyngham-Hacker House located at 5214 Germantown Avenue and the Howell House located at 5218 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows the Conyngham-Hacker House to the left partially obscured by trees. Enough is visible to ascertain that this is a two story stone structure with dormer windows built into the roof line of the metal, seamed roof. An arched pediment supported by columns surrounds the front entrance. The house is set back from the sidewalk and a path leads from the sidewalk to the main entrance. The path appears to continue around to the side of the property. To the right is the Howell House, another two story stone structure with a dormer window built into the roof line of the metal, seamed roof. The house is situated much closer to the sidewalk and has several steps (enclosed by stone walls on either side of the steps and topped with metal railings) leading up to the main entrance. A low stone wall topped by a low metal fence extends across this property and also across the front of the Conyngham-Hacker House. The main entrance of the Howell House has a formal surround with a peaked pediment and a glass transom above the front door. Paneled shutters frame the first floor windows; louvered shutters frame the second story windows. Ivy covers much of the front facade of the Howell House. Dentil molding extends under the front and side eaves above the second story windows.
