Photograph a [top, overlay]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows a view of the Building of the Germantown Women's Christian Association located at 5501 Germantown Avenue. The building is of brick and is three stories (with two dormer windows built into the third story roofline). The main entrance is paced to the left and a sign has been affixed to the front of the building above the row of first story windows identifying the building as the home of the Women's Christian Association. A side view of the building is also visible with a partial view of Church Lane at the bottom right. To the left, a partial view of a haripin metal fence is visible which denotes fencing on Market Square which is across the street from the building. To the left in the photograph is 5503 Germantown Avenue which is also a three story brick structure with two dormer windows built into the third story roof line. The main entrance of that building is encased with an enclosed netryway and a bulkhead can be seen to the right of the front entrance. A raised brick sidewalk is visible in front of the buildings and is accessible by two stone steps at the Church Lane side. A very slight portion of 5505 Germantown Avenue can be partially seen at the top left of the photograph. Also visible is vegetation and a fence behind 5501 Germantown Avenue.
Photograph b [(top, under overlay]: This photograph shows a reproduction of an old watercolor showing (in the center) Market Square with a roofed structure supported by stone columns and open throughout. To the right of this structure is a small structure with two paneled doors surmounted by a small steeple. In the foreground is a small expanse of lawn. To the left of the Square (west) is Germantown Avenue. A stagecoach is seen traveling north on Germantown Avenue and people are visible on the Square. Houses/buildings are also visible on the east sdie of the Square. One of those buildings is a prominent stone structure surmounted by a belfry, the steeple of which is topped by a "rooster" weathervane.
Photograph c [bottom]: This photograph shows a view of the Delaplaine House located at 5521-5523 Germantown Avenue. The structure is of stone and is a full three stories with a gambrel roof and a pent eave surrounding most of the first story front and side. Germantown Avenue is visible in the foreground and appears to be unpaved. Behind the house (seen from the Germantown Avenue side) is a three story "extension". Dormer windows are built into the third story roofline throughout the structure. A fence is seen at the end of the structure along Germantown Avenue and also to the right of the main structure. An overhang, supported by two columns extends outward from the pent eave and may have originally marked the main entrance. To the right of this overhang is a bulkhead. The main entrance would seem to be located at the far right in the photograph.
