Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 100 Photograph: Please see notes for captioning information. This photograph shows a side view of the Johnson House located at 6306 Germantown Avenue (northwest corner of Germantown Avenue and Washington Lane). The view is a side view (facing north on Germantown Avenue) with a "truncated" view of the front of the structure. The building is a two story stone structure with two dormer windows built into the roof line and two side windows at the top of the side view, affording a third floor to the house. A pent eave is visible above the first floor on the side and front. Above the main entrance is a peaked pediment incoroprated into the pent eave. The brick pavement is visible in the foreground as is a picket fence separating the side yard from the front pavement (with an opening presupposing a gate). At the left side of the photograph is a sign affixed to the picket fence listing Rush J. Whiteside & Sons. Foliage is seen growing immediately behind the fence. An extension to the main structure is visible in the far left background. A brick chimney protrudes above the roof line. Immediately below the chimney and at the top of the side "peak" is a stone tablet inserted into the wall with the date inscribed as 1768.
