Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 112
Photograph a [top]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows a front view of the former King of Prussia Inn located at 5516-18-20 Germantown Avenue. At the time of the photograph (circa 1910), it appears the building was divided into a store (on the left - advertising Howard Smith & Co., Plumbing , Gas Fitting) and two residences. The structure is a full three stories, constructed of stone with a stucco facade, also constructed with a gambrel roof and three dormer windows built into the third story metal-seamed roof line. Germantown Avenue is visible in the foreground paved with trolley tracks embedded into the paving. A driveway on the left separates the property from the next structure on the left (only partially visible). A horse is visible in the left of the photograph along Germantown Avenue. To the right in the photograph is a high stone wall beginning at the end of the structure and progressing along Germantown Avenue. To the right of this stone wall is visible a larger three story building
Photograph b [bottom]: This photograph shows a rear view of the former King of Prussia Inn building at 5516-18-20 Germantown Avenue. The side view shows a stone cnstruction, while the rear view shows a stucco facade. The left portion of the roof is shingle covered, while the right side is a metal-seamed roof. A large porch overhang has been constructed above the first story and is supported by a number of columns. Several chairs are seen positioned under the overhang. The leftmost building would seem to reflect the rear of 5520 Germantown Avenue (because of the stone wall seen at the left in this photograph), to the right would be the rear of 5518 Germantown Avenue and to the extreme right would be the rear of 5516 Germantown Avenue. On the second story rear of 5516 Germantown Avenue is visible what appears to be a door (or perhaps a portion of a door, covered by the overhang?) The far left side of the back porch is shielded from view by a louvered door and a louvered panel. A lawn and some vegetation and mature trees are visible in the photograph. The somewhat "bucolic" rear view presents a sharp contrast to the more "commercial" front view.Photograph Details
