Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 102
Photograph: Please see notes for captioning information. This photograph shows a view of the Muhlenberg Monument which is located on the grounds of the Lutheran Theological Seminary located at 7301 Germantown Avenue. The photograph shows a large monument atop a tall, white stone base which is set upon a white stone foundation (probably marble). Protruding outward is a white pillar upon which rests a stature of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, dressed in clerical garb with one hand raised and the other at his side. Beyond the stature itself and resting upon the stone base is a bas relief of men (on the left) and women (on the right) gazing up at the statue of Muhlenberg. On the front of the statue base is the inscription:
Henry Mechhoir
Muhlenberg
Patriarch
of the
Lutheran Church
in America
Pastor in Philadelphia
1742-1787
Behind the monument is visible a canopy of trees.
