Photograph a [top]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows a two story structure set back from Germantown Avenue (seen in the foreground with paved stones and trolley tracks embedded in the paving). This house would be located in the 5300 block of Germantown Avenue. A low stone wall encompasses the front of the property and is surmounted by a hairpin fence. A gate is positioned in the center beyond which are steps and a path leading up to the front porch. The house is two stories, and the first floor front is encased with an overhang creating a porch which is "decorated" with lattice work. Second story windows are covered with awnings. A side "extension" to the structure is visible to the left. Many plantings, trees and shrubs are seen throughout the property.
Photograph b [bottom]: This photograph shows a front view of another house in Cottage Row (located in the 5300 block of Germantown Avenue). The house in centered in this photograph, set back from Germantown Avenue (seen in the foreground). A sidewalk extends the width of the photograph. The house is fronted by a stone wall with an opening in the wall allowing access to the property. The house is two stories with a dormer (double window) built into the roof line. The front entrance is located to the very left of the building and has a pointed overhang creating a small porch faced with trellis arches. To the left is a three story stone building with a sign on the side advertising David Rittenhouse cigars. That building shows what would appear to be a store entrance at the extreme left in the photograph. To the right in the photograph is partially visible another house with stone steps leading uup to the front entrance.
