Description

Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 110 Photograph a [top]: Please see notes for captioning and other information. This photograph shows a view of the Ashmead Houses located at 5430 and 5434 Germantown Avenue. The Ashmead Houses are located in the center of the photograph and both are two story stone structures with a single dormer window built into the roof line. They front on Germantown Avenue which is visible in the foreground as paved and embedded with trolley tracks. To the right is visible a portion of the Germantown Saving Fund building. To the left in the photograph is another two story stone dwellling with a single dormer window built into the roof line. Utility poles and a street light are clearly visible on the sidewalk in front of the houses. Photograph b [overlay]: This photograph shows a view of the "Old Ashmead House" (that title written on the bottom of the photograph). To the right of the "Old Ashmead House" is a view of a protion of the Germantown Saving Fund Society. The "Old Ashmead Hosue" is a three story stone structure with a dormer window built into the roof line. An extension to the main house can be seen to the right. It is "set back" from the "main house" and is two stories. This "extension" has an enclosed entryway on the first floor front and a type of gambrel roof. The second story of this "extension" appears to be covered with shingles; the first floor is constructed of stone. To the left in the phiotograph is a driveway separating the Old Ashmead House from the propery to the left (a protion of that structure is visible ). Photograph c [bottom]: This photograph shows a view of the Ashmead Houses as noted in 2013.5.1.110a above. This particular photograph appears to have been taken almost directly across Germantown Avenue from the houses, rather than at an angle as in 2013.5.1.110a. The firrerence in this photograph is that a porrtion of the Germantown Saving Fund Society is barely visible, and the house to the left in 2013.5.1.110a above is not visible.
