Photographs from Photo Scrapbook 1, Part 2, Page 91
Photograph a [top]: Please see Notes for a description of captioning. Please also see catalog numbers 2013.5.1.24b, 44b, 60b, 61a for additional information/description of scrapbook photographs of Vernon. Photograph 91a shows a view of Vernon taken from a left front view angle. Lawns are visible in the foreground, sides of the house and beyond. The structure itself is a two story stone and stucco-covered building. It has a formal front entrance with a wooden "surround", double doors with a half-moon glass transom over the front doors and two columns supporting the "surround". First floor windows are framed by paneled shutters and two basement windows are visible above ground level on either end of the building. A number of stone steps lead up to the front entrance with a metal railing on the left. The roof is metal seamed with two dormer windows built into the roof line. The dormers are peaked to form a pediment and the top sash of both windows are rounded. A large peaked pediment is also built into the roof line and centered over the middle second story window. This contains a half-moon window. At least one stucco covered chimney is visible at the right end of the house. Various mature trees are evident throughout the property.
Photograph b [bottom]: This photograph shows a slightly different angled view of Vernon - taken from the front left but also showing the side of the structure. The principal differences in this photograph that differentiate it from phiotograph 91a are: the front of the building is covered with ivy; the railing shown in photograph 91a has been replaced with two railings that extend only to the edge of the top step; to the right of the steps a pedestal now exists with some type of ornamentation atop the pedestal; a "street lamp" is shown to the left beside the path; and a set of double doors raised/slanted on the side of the house lead into the basement. Mature trees are spread throughout the property.Photograph Details
