Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 144.
A single newspaper from an undated and unidentified newspaper is glued to page 144. Its associated headline exclaims "Prevents Wedding of Son in France" and continues with "The arm of a Philadelphia mother has reached across the ocean and prevented the marriage of a doughboy of the 28th Division to a petite daughter of France. This was learned today, when Mrs. Anna Rowland, of 5843 Cemetery av., Germantown, received a letter from... Brigadier-General Smedley D. Butler, in command of the embarkation camp at Brest, saying he has forbidden the marriage. She had appealed to him to prevent the marriage of her son, John J. Rowland, seventeen, who fought through the war with Company F, 111th Infantry. He had written her he was about to marry dark-eyed little Renee Suchet St. Jeanne Le Blanc, of Orleans."
