Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 65.
A single article is glued to page 65, dated September, 1918. The article, "Planning Loan 'Drive," details fundraising activities in Germantown during World War I. It notes that "Men of Germantown and vicinity are to take a more aggressive part in the campaign for the Fourth Liberty Loan than was the case in the preceding loan campaigns. The Twenty-second Ward will be organized somewhat as was done in the War Chest campaign, there being seven districts, each in charge of a chairman, with a force of canvassers in each election division. J. Edward Durham [with photo] has been appointed chairman of the ward. Mr. Durham lives at 319 West Johnson street and is a director of the National Bank of Germantown. George D. Porter and John C. Humphreys are associate chairmen." The article continues with a list of chairmen for each district in the 22nd Ward. The chairs include: Ira Jewell Williams, Eugene McAleer, William H. Wilson, John W. Dorriss, William H. Emhardt, Asa W. Vandegrift, John W. Brooks. Others mentioned as being involved in the fundraising effort: Mrs. W. B. Gurley [with photo], Mrs. S. F. Dibble, Mrs. Winfield McCoombs, Mrs. William H. George, Mrs. J. S. Williams, Mrs. John Harvey Lee, Miss Annie Yerkes, Mrs. Preston K. Erdman, Mrs. H. L. Cassard, Mrs. W. Beaumont Whitney, Mrs. Fred Perry Powers, Miss Anna M. Johnson, Mrs. Charles D. Smoot, Mrs. Ernest T. Toogood, Mrs. M. J. McEnery, Mrs. Benjamin Robinson.
