Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 49
A single article from February, 1919 is glued to this page, with the headline "Appeal For Funds for World War Memorial: Public Hearing Held in Y. M. C. A. Hall to Arouse Interest in Campaign." The article notes that "Of the $15,000 needed to pay for the Germantown World War memorial tablets, $6600 has been subscribed up to last night. This was the report of Walter Williams, treasurer of the fund, presented at a public meeting held in behalf of the campaign in the hall of the Germantown Young Men's Christian Association. Thomas G. Parris [photograph included], director of the campaign, in an address told of his regrets that the campaign is getting under way so slowly. It was opened at a dinner last Thursday night, and Mr. Parris then hoped the $15,000 would be subscribed by the time of last night's meeting. He said it was easy enough to get volunteers to promise to help, but of the 165 workers who volunteered many made no reports and many did not even attend last night's meeting. Mr. Parris said that of the money so far subscribed $4000 was raised by one man. Bayard Henry, former state senator, who is chairman of the general committee in charge of the memorial, presided at last night's meeting, and addresses were made by Colonel Sheldon Potter and Dr. Calvin O. Althouse, of the Central High School," etc.
