Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, page 10
Includes two newspaper clippings. The first [left/ top, 10a] is an article from the Philadelphia Public Ledger dated September 10, 1916, with the headline "Germantown Man Killed in Trenches" and includes a photograph of David G. Cooke, the fallen Lance Corporal. The obituary notes: Cut down by a German shell within full view of his two brothers, dragged by them to a protected corner of the trench, only to find in agony an hour later, was the fate of the late David G. Cooke, twenty-eight years old, of 5629 Stokes Street, Germantown, in the skirmishing following the battle of the Somme. This was disclosed by a letter just received by his brother, William R. Cooke, of 321 East Wister Street, Germantown, written from the trench by another brother, Collins A. Cooke, and confirmed by a letter from their aged mother in Ireland." See 2013.13.1.9 for associated letters.
The second [10b], dated May 3, 1919, is a poem "Disturb Him Not" written by William R. Cooke, in reference to his fallen brother.
