Clippings and memorabilia from World War I scrapbook compiled by Dr. Naaman H. Keyser, letter between pages 27 and 28.
A letter is loose, between pages 27 and 28. The letter was sent from the War Work Council's Army and Navy division of the Young Men's Christian Association, Allentown, PA on July 13, 1917, to Dr. Keyser, and reads "Dear Dr. Keyser, Here is a money order for $2.58 which I think will square us. It has been rainy here most of this week but otherwise we have been enjoying ourselves. Getting down to brass tacks, now and things look like business. Got our field equipment yesterday and several sections are out on a hike getting hardwood and we expect to go out next week. Our section is made up mostly of Gtn. men and J. O. Parsells of Wayne Junction is sergeant. He is a Spanish American War Vet. and because of his experience we have the advantage of [missing portions of bottom edge]... the sections ... he takes mighty good care of us and we are not half bad at drilling. Your friend Gen. Anthony is in our section and is [illeegible] because he hasn't command of a section. I don't think he can keep up with us young fellows asa he isn't physically fit. He is a vegetarian [at what- crossed out] and when the salt park comes along I am afraid he will fall short, but fairly good [illegible] but occasionally a [illegible] one. This morning it was him. [illegible] hominy and milk and the cooks didn't know that it had to be soaked and we got it hard. Even at that I gained nearly ten pounds since I came up. Most kind regards to Mrs. Keyser. I am Sincerely Yours Arthur L. Cannon."
