Description

Urban Village Exhibit Ex30 or Ex30a? Label: Wyck was home to nine generations of the same Quaker family. Ownership descended through the female line from the daughter of Hans Milan, who built the first structure at the site around 1700-1720. In 1736, Dirk Jansen, the husband of Margaret Milan, enlarged Wyck. In 1771-1773, Reuben Haines I, who married Margret, the daughter of Caspar Wistar and Catherine Jansen, enlarged the house still further. Reuben and Margret died in the yellow fever epidemic while nursing the sick.
