Description

Two nearly identical square photographic prints with rounded tops mounted to an ivory card; prints depict an architecturally eccentric three story building; a two story semi-circular portico is in the center over the door; a railed terrace goes around the building at the second floor level; the third floor has a central section with openwork beams on either side; a tower with a pagoda-like spire rises above the central section. On either side of the building are columns made of three pillars with spiral banding. A man is standing in front of an ornate wrought iron gate set between two round masonry columns topped with lanterns. Two paper labels are on the reverse: "423. The Favorite. A Royal Villa, near Palermo. Sicily.". A larger label is a text advertisement for the maker: "WAY & SONS' / STEREOSCOPIC VIEWS / OF / DEVONSHIRE SCENERY," followed by a listing of all the scenes available and followed by their address: "Stereoscopic Depot & Artists' Repository / 13, VICTORIA PARADE, / TORQUAY."
