Description

Blue painted square back arm chair in Louis XVI style, upholstered in Beauvais tapestry with tasseled fringe. The tapestry dates to late 18th c. but the frame is later. The crest rail is straight and flat and cube shaped on both ends topped with an inverted cone and knob. The splat is three rounded carved rungs (vertical) that flare into a v-shape at the top. The arms sweep out from near the top of the backrest and are laid horizontal to the seat. They have a small padded area upholstered in tapestry with tasseled fringe. The arms end in a swirling oval shape. Extending down from the oval shape is a round reeded support which flares into an urn shape that is connected to a vertical rectangular block at the seat. The seat is square in shape but rounded at the front, and upholstered in tapestry with a scene of two birds. The scene is bordered with multicolored flowers. The front legs are round reeded straight legs with brass casters and the rear legs are stump legs with brass casters. Painted wood decorated with flowers and sunbursts.
